In the 15^th century, under the direction of the astronomer and prince of Samarkand, Ulugh Beg, a masterpiece was created with the copying and illustration of Al-Sufi’s bravura work on the fixed stars, dating from the 10^th century. The manuscript contains 74 constellations and mythical figures relating to the astronomers’ extraordinarily accurate description of their observations of the sky.
